Asian Pacific Community Fund Grants Over $125,000 to Local Nonprofits

The Asian Pacific Community Fund is granting $126,886 to its 28 member agencies. In addition, APCF will be announcing three new grant opportunities totaling $55,000 to its member agencies through a donor advised fund. APCF was created as a vehicle through which individuals working in government or large companies could “give at the office” and earmark their donations to support Asian Pacific Islanders in need. As founding board member Bill Watanabe recalls, “Asian American employees were being asked to donate to causes that didn’t really address our communities’ needs. We felt the time had come to create a community-based fund through which Asian Pacific Islanders could give back directly to their own communities.”

Asian Pacific Community Fund Makes Over $116,000 in Local Grants

Since 1993, APCF has distributed over $825,000 in funds raised through our workplace giving campaigns. APCF was created to address resource inequities disproportionately affecting the Asian Pacific Islander community through resource development, with a special focus on workplace giving campaigns. Founding board member Bill Watanabe remembers why the Fund was created: “In the mid- to late-80s, Asian Pacific Islander community-based organizations were excluded from participating in workplace giving campaigns, even though a lot of APIs were employed where these campaigns were being conducted. We needed to create a vehicle through which APIs could give back to our own communities in need.”
