Why should I donate to the Asian Pacific Community Fund?

Every donation made to the Asian Pacific Community Fund supports nonprofits serving low-income, immigrant, and other underserved communities of Asian Pacific Islander youth, elderly, and families. Your donation will go directly to 29 nonprofit, community-based organizations that provide critically needed programs and services for low-income, immigrant & refugee populations.

Because the Asian Pacific Islander community is so diverse and complex, APCF is a vital link between donors and the wide array of nonprofit organizations serving the broad range of needs and issues in the community.

What does my donation fund?

The Asian Pacific Community Fund provides funding to 29 affiliate agencies serving over 100,000 clients annually, of which over 80% are low-income. Our affiliates provide a broad range of critically needed services, including: after-school tutoring and education, child care, disabled assistance, food distribution, health care, legal services, low-income housing, senior services, violence prevention, and more.

How much money is granted by APCF to its member agencies annually?

In 1993, the first year that APCF made grants, we gave out $10,000. Since that time, our grant awards have grown steadily each year. In the 14 years that APCF has been making grants, we have given out nearly $1.2 million, all from funds collected from individual donors.

How are the affiliate organizations selected to participate in the Asian Pacific Community Fund?

The Asian Pacific Community Fund is dedicated to supporting quality programs and services to meet the needs of diverse Asian Pacific Islanders through reputable community-based organizations. We select our affiliate agencies through a careful application and review process. All affiliate agencies are required to be tax-exempt, 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations as approved by the IRS, spend at least 50% of their budget on programs serving Asian Pacific Islanders, AND have demonstrated a minimum three-year history of programmatic and fiscal accountability and responsibility.

How are funds distributed to the affiliate agencies?

Throughout the year, campaign funds are collected in a separate account. At the end of each year, all campaign funds are tabulated and distributed to the 29 affiliate agencies. Because it is a grassroots, community-based fund that relies heavily on the active participation of our affiliate agencies for successful campaigns, APCF uses a distribution formula that rewards agencies that are more active participants in its activities, while factoring in agency size and staff capacity.

Can I designate my donation to a specific agency?

Yes, you can designate your gift to one or more agencies. Designated gifts are passed along to each agency at our annual grant distribution event.

Do the APCF affiliate organizations only serve Asians and Pacific Islanders?

No. While many programs are targeted to the Asian and Pacific Islander communities through culturally sensitive and in-language services, our agencies do not discriminate nor refuse services based on ethnicity, race, language, or religion. APCF affiliate agencies provide programs and services for all underserved people. In fact, because of recent demographics shifts in the communities served by our affiliates, some of our member agencies located in heavily populated areas now serve equal numbers of Latinos, African Americans, and other non-APIs to Asian Pacific Islander clientele.
